Privacy policy

Plazi (plazi.app) helps travellers find events and local services, town by town. This page explains in plain words what we store about you, why, who else handles it, and how to delete it.

The short version

  • You can browse Plazi without an account. There are no ads and no tracking or analytics tools.
  • Your profile page is private until you choose to make it public.
  • Events and services you list are public. That is what listing is for.
  • We don’t sell your data. You can delete your account, and what it holds, at any time.

What we store and why

  • Your account. When you sign up we store your email address and your name, and, if you sign in with Google, your Google profile photo. We use them to sign you in and to show your name on what you post. Passwords are handled by Firebase Authentication; we never see them.
  • Your profile page. Your name, username, photo, cover, headline, bio, town, contact details and links. It is private by default: only you and Plazi’s admins can see it. If you make it public, all of it becomes visible to anyone with the link and to search engines, together with the events and services you list. You can make it private again at any time. Usernames you have used stay reserved for you, so nobody else can take them, until you delete your account.
  • Events and services. What you list is public: titles, descriptions, photos, places, prices, contact details and links. An event or service can also be shared by someone other than its organiser; the organiser can ask to take it over.
  • Going and interested. If you mark an event as going or interested, its host sees your name and profile photo in their guest list, even when your profile is private. Everyone else only sees the totals.
  • Tickets. When you reserve tickets we store them with your name and a ticket code. The host sees your name, never your email, so they can check you in at the door. Plazi does not handle payments.
  • Telegram. If you link your Telegram account, we store your Telegram user and chat IDs so the Plazi bot can recognise you. If you follow a town in the bot, we store your chat ID, the towns you follow, your language and the time you want the daily digest. Events you post through the bot are linked to your Telegram user ID, which is not shown publicly. If you add the bot to a group, we store the group’s name, link and settings. While you post an event or change a setting step by step in the bot, we keep your unfinished answers for up to 7 days, then delete them.
  • Poster scans. When you scan a poster to fill in an event, the photo and any text you paste are sent to Anthropic’s Claude, which reads out the details. We don’t keep the photo unless you add it to your event. We count scans per account per day to prevent abuse.
  • Photos. Photos you upload are resized on your device first, which also removes hidden data such as the GPS location. They are stored in Firebase Storage. Anyone who has a photo’s exact address can open it, so only upload photos you are happy to show.
  • Reports, requests and notifications. If you report a listing or profile, or ask to take over a listing, we store your request and any message or contact details you add, so our team can review it. We also keep the notifications we show you on the site.
  • Your location. Only if you allow it. Your browser shares your position to find the nearest town; we send the coordinates to BigDataCloud to look up the town’s name and keep a rounded copy (about 1 km) on your device for three days. It is not saved on our servers.
  • Addresses. Addresses you type into a listing are looked up with OpenStreetMap’s Nominatim service to place them on the map. If you paste a Google Maps link instead, or send the Telegram bot a place name or a location pin, we look it up with Google Maps Platform (Places and Geocoding) to get the place’s name and address.
  • Technical logs. Like any website, our hosting keeps short-lived technical logs, such as IP addresses and errors, to keep the service running and secure.

Who else handles your data

A few services help us run Plazi. They handle data for us only for these purposes:

  • Google Firebase and Google Cloud host the site and store accounts, the database, photos and our server functions.
  • Anthropic (Claude) reads the posters you choose to scan.
  • Telegram delivers the bot’s messages, if you use the bot.
  • BigDataCloud, OpenStreetMap and Google Maps Platform help with locations, as described above.

These services may process data in other countries, including the United States and the European Union. We don’t sell your data or share it with advertisers.

Cookies and storage on your device

We use one cookie, __session, to remember your language. When you sign in, Firebase keeps your session in your browser’s storage. Your browser also keeps a few preferences there, such as your theme, your last town and unsent drafts. There are no advertising or analytics cookies.

How long we keep it

We keep your account, profile and listings until you delete them or your account. When an event or service is deleted, its tickets, guest list, reports and photo go with it. Town follows in the Telegram bot are kept per chat, and only while that chat follows at least one town: unfollowing every town deletes them, blocking the bot deletes them as soon as a digest can no longer be delivered, and deleting your account also deletes the follows of the Telegram chat linked to it. Technical logs are deleted automatically after a short time.

Deleting your account

Open Your page & account and choose “Delete my account”. This removes your profile and usernames, your events and services, your tickets, your going and interested marks, your notifications, the reports and requests you made and the photos you uploaded, and then your sign-in account itself.

One exception: if other people hold tickets for an upcoming event you created, that event is hidden and unlinked from your account, and its contact details are removed, so they can still see what they booked.

Your choices and rights

You can change most of your details yourself on your page. You can also write to hello@plazi.app to get a copy of your data, to correct it or to have it deleted. Depending on where you live (for example in the EU), you may have more rights, including to complain to your local data protection authority.

Age

Plazi is not meant for children. You need to be at least 16 to create an account.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update this page and the date at the top.
