Quema del Diablo – Burning of the Devil, Barrio La Concepción (35th year)

Description

On the eve of the Immaculate Conception, Guatemalans burn the devil, and in Antigua the neighbours of Barrio La Concepción gather around a single large eco-friendly devil effigy instead of household bonfires. Recent editions included the reading of the devil's 'testament', fireworks and a concert, and the burning opens the barrio's Concepción festivities. 2026 is the tradition's 35th year; the committee had not yet published its 2026 programme.
